Sofia Gawer was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She attended the National University of Fine Arts, earning degrees in Sculpture and Printmaking. She moved to the USA in 1989, and she works at her studio in Chevy Chase, Washington DC.
Sofia taught art workshops at different sites in the Washington DC area, such as the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Art Museum of the Americas, The Washington International School, The Sidwell Friends Lower School and at the Enrichment Program of Janney Elementary School in Washington DC.
Mrs Gawer has created several public art projects including Party Animals in Washington DC, DOGNY in New York City, Ocean City Beach Birds in Ocean City, Maryland, and Birds I View in PG County, Maryland. Mrs Gawer Fische also worked as a Property designer for many play productions at the Gala Hispanic Theatre.
Her exhibitions in the USA have included The Fredericksburg Museum in VA, The Embassy of Argentina, The Pan American Health Organization, The Mexican Cultural Institute, The Colonnade Gallery at George Washington University and the Zenith Gallery, in Washington DC.
