Watching this father and son walking through the National Gallery of Art spurred me to reflect on my own relationship with my father who passed away a few years ago. The idyllic childhood that I had with my father became more complicated later in life. I inserted this Puvis de Chavannes canvas into my painting because of the title, The Prodigal Son, and its story of redemption and forgiveness. Not a bad thing to keep in mind during this period of isolation from distant family and friends.
