“This is a great show for the WDCEP because it showcases many of the neighborhoods where we have worked, including several that are part of the DC Great Streets Initiative,” said Keith Sellars, President/CEO of the WDCEP.WDCEP is often the first stop for many investors and businesses considering a presence in Washington, DC. WDCEP is responsible for promoting the District to the business and investment communities as well as DC based businesses. Many of the neighborhoods are featured in their annual Neighborhood Profiles and DC Development Report. “The location of our office at the intersection of 15thand F Street, along with its sweeping bank of storefront windows, creates a wonderful “gallery” to showcase Washington area artists to the public and investment community,” said Sellars.
Washington, DC boasts an extraordinary creative economy, third in the nation behind NY and LA, and world-class art and cultural assets. The presence of the arts is increasingly important in the District’s overall economic development, appeal to new residents, and attraction of innovative companies.
Zenith Gallery, one of the oldest galleries in the city, established in 1978, is managing the program. The first show was hung in January and featured art about the Inauguration, the second show was centered on Cherry Blossoms in salute to the DC Annual Cherry Blossom Festival.“My gallery has been in DC for 35 years; we are committed to enhancing art in this community and introducing new DC artists to the market,” said Margery Goldberg, Founder, Zenith Gallery.“We have designed this program to support WDCEP’s mission for marketing the city and visually compelling in how it tells the story about Washington, DC.”
The Great Street and Urban Life show is being sponsored by Roadside Development, and Urban Atlantic. Both firms have development projects in DC neighborhoods and have representation on the WDCEP Board of Directors. An open house will be scheduled for September 2013.The current schedule allows for at least 4 shows a year at the WDCEP offices.
