Frank Holmes

b. 1938, Detroit MI. Frank Holmes studied at the University of New Mexico and received his BFA from Pratt Institute in New York City and his MFA from Ohio University in Athens. Holmes was awarded fellowships in painting by the American Academy in Rome and by The Ingram Merrill Foundation. He has had also exhibitions in New York City at The Monique Knowlton Gallery, Galerie Tamenaga, and the Myrna citron Gallery. He has also had solo shows at TLK Gallery, Costa Mesa, California and at The Dayton Art Institute, Dayton, Ohio. His work has been included in group exhibitions at Sherry French Gallery, New York City; The Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio. The Joslyn Museum, Omaha, Nebraska; Portland, Oregon Museum of Art; The Newport Harbor Museum, Newport Beach, California; The Heckscher Museum, Huntington, New York; National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC and The Grand Palais in Paris, France.


Holmes’ work is in the collections of, among others, American Express International, New York; Owens-Corning Fiberglas, Toledo, Ohio; the Roberson Museum, Binghamton, New York; The Dayton Art Institute, Dayton, Ohio; Capricorn Gallery, Bethesda, Maryland and Mr. Elton John, London, England. Carter Ratcliff, John Russell, Gerrit Henry, and Allen Ellenzweig have written of Holmes’ work and reviews of exhibitions have appeared in the New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Art in America, ARTnews, Arts Magazine, Artweek, and American Art Review.
