EDUCATION Master of Fine Arts Degree 1975 University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree 1971 Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama Artist’s Statement: My artwork reflects the changing environments in which I travel. From urban cityscapes to pastoral landscapes, I have abstracted and invented forms and shapes to convey the feeling of a place and space. Travels within Italy, India, France, and the desert Southwest have opened my art to the riches of cultural symbols and palettes. Luminous color and movement are integral to my compositions. The mixed media and acrylic paintings are process oriented. I begin by superimposing many layers of images to create an abstract language of color, shape and form that asks questions about the mysteries of life. References of ancient cultures are overlaid with natural and geometric forms. The images are put together in a dreamlike sequence to reinforce the reality of an inherent metaphysical world. The forces of nature and the mysterious inner life of humankind are themes that have been constant in my work. Biography: Anne Marchand was born in New Orleans, Louisiana.
